The iPhone 17 through Lifeline is real - but the internet is full of scam versions of this offer.
I started tracking Lifeline-supported iPhones in August 2018, back when the newest device a provider would ship was the iPhone 6s. Eight years later, the federal benefit still works the same way it always has: it covers your monthly service (about a $9.25 credit per household), and the participating provider chooses which devices to offer at $0 upfront to keep new customers on their network.
The iPhone 17 sits at the top of that list right now, and it moves fast. When Apple released it in September 2025, only Assurance Wireless had a small allotment. Nine months later, AirTalk Wireless and TruConnect have caught up, and between the three of them we are seeing steady weekly restocks in the 30 states our team monitors most closely.
This page is my working notes on how to actually get one - not a rewritten press release, not a lead-gen page. If a provider stops shipping the iPhone 17, I remove it from the list within 48 hours. If you notice something out of date, email the editorial team and it gets fixed the same day.
